COURSES BEAUTY THERAPY
 

Beauty Therapy courses provide training for individuals seeking professional employment in the beauty industry. Beauty therapists apply face and body treatments, and provide advice on skin care. Study in the many areas of beauty could lead to employment in a beauty salon, a spa complex, a hairdressing salon, a pharmacy, a department store or a health and fitness centre. Qualified Beauty Therapists are also able to work as specialists in one of the many high demand areas of beauty such as nail technology, make-up artistry and natural therapies.

A beauty therapist is able to offer client services ranging from cosmetic make-up, manicures, pedicures and waxing and, depending on the electives chosen, the therapeutic/physical treatments of lymphatic, sport and remedial massage.

The variety of work that a Beauty Therapist does is extensive and can include such things as:

  • carry out skin analysis and give advice about skin and body care
  • perform facial or body massage and/or aromatherapy treatment
  • analyse body type and advise on exercise programs and nutrition
  • use a variety of treatments and electrical equipment to treat individual skin and body conditions
  • remove facial and body hair by electrolysis or waxing
  • provide advice and support to clients following cosmetic surgery
  • recognise problems and refer clients to medical practitioners such as dermatologists, plastic surgeons, endocrinologists, podiatrists, chiropractors and physiotherapists
  • apply make-up
  • perform manicures, pedicures, nail extensions and eyelash and brow tinting
  • perform reception duties (e.g. receive bookings and arrange appointments)
  • maintain client records
  • provide advice on and sell cosmetic products and related beauty equipment
